DR
ROD LANGLEY played by CHRIS ORCHARD
Dr
Rod Langley was a likeable doctor, even if he could be a little
arrogant at times. His father was a respected doctor, and getting
on in his career was of great importance to Rod.
He had
dalliances with a number of ladies, including Liz Kennedy, but it
was another nurse that broke his heart. Like Peter Holland after
him, Rod became involved in a love triangle involving his own father.
Nurse Vicki Rayner eventually ended up marrying the older Dr Langley.
At the end of 1978 Rod and Tania took Vicki's son, Toby, on a sailing
trip. There was a freak storm and Jamie was thrown overboard. His
little body was never found, and Vicki could not forgive the man
in whom she had entrusted her son's safety.
After
eighteen months of playing Rod, Chris Orchard left the show
and announced in a newspaper article that he was disillusioned with
television acting. He went on to pursue a stage career with the
Melbourne Theatre Company, appearing in a Man For All Seasons, The
Good Person of Setzuan and The London Cuckolds. However, within
a few years he was back on the small screen, in the ongoing role
of Tommy Carson in Carson's Law.
Chris
has also had a number of other, smaller, TV roles, in dramas such
as Prisoner and E Street.
