DR
PETER HOLLAND played by PETER LOCHRAN
Dr
Peter Holland was one of the most popular of all the young doctors,
both on and off screen. He was a regular Casanova, who dated most
of the pretty nurses at the hospital, including Sherry Andrews,
Maggie Gordon and Emmy King. But, Peter's one true love was Tania
Livingston. The couple had an on-off relationship made all the more
difficult by Tania's insecurity after her failed marriage to Tony.
Peter almost found happiness with Maggie Gordon. The young nurse
was attracted to him because life with her boyfriend, Dr Graham
Steele, was dull and stressful. But, when Graham proposed, Maggie
realised that she and Peter had no future.
Peter
was also involved in a love triangle with Lori Nichols and his own
father, Derek! Over the years, all of the Holland family made appearances
in the show. Peter's younger brother, Mark, worked at the Albert
as an orderly, and his sister Julie as a nurse.
When
Peter became a surgeon he had some initial problems with confidence
over his own abilities. It wasn't helped by the surgeon he was training
under. Dr Robert Shaw (Raymond's son) was in love with Tania, and
jealous of her history with Peter. He made Peter's work life hell,
despite intervention from his father. Peter eventually left the
Albert to work in Japan. In the final episode of the show he called
Tania (thanks to some matchmaking from Ada Simmonds and Helen Gordon)
and asked her to fly out to Tokyo to marry him. She said yes.
Peter
Lochran was born in Queensland and ditched plans to go to university
to become a model. While working for Vogue he was spotted by Reg
Watson and invited to do a screen test for The Restless Years. Peter
wasn't keen on the idea of acting, preferring the big money and
travel opportunities modelling could bring, but when his screen
test led to the offer a part in The Young Doctors, his agent convinced
him to give it a go. Peter soon became the show's hottest star and
received sack-loads of fan mail. He left the show after 18 months
to study acting in the US, but returned to the Albert for another
stint in 1981. After leaving the show for a second time, Peter eventually
settled in New York and began appearing in US daytime soaps, even
being nominated for an award in 1986. He has since returned to Australia.
