DR
BEN FIELDING played by ERIC OLDFIELD
Dr
Ben Fielding made an impression from the day he joined the Albert.
The first time he met Dr Susan Richards he told her that he would
marry her. He didn't, but he did date her, along with a string of
other female doctors and nurses. He was in love with Liz Kennedy,
but she ditched him for John Forrest on their wedding day.
Ben later
married Robyn Porter, but their marriage was beset with problems.
Firstly, they discovered that their overseas marriage wasn't legal,
thanks to a trick played by Ben's goddaughter Annabel Grey. Annabel
was in love with Ben and did everything she could to split the couple
up. She failed, but their relationship was then faced with another
challenge. Both doctors went after the same job, and the competition
almost caused them to leave each other. Eventually, the pair made
their peace and decided to marry for real and start a new life away
from the setting of their many problems.
Before
he turned to acting, Eric Oldfield had been a very successful
model. He was twice the Cleo magazine centrefold, and in 1970 was
voted Model of the Year.
His biggest
television role before The Young Doctors was as Phil in Chopper
Squad. While playing Dr Fielding, Eric released a record, "Girls
on the Beach". After leaving the show he appeared in Rafferty's
Rules, Possession and Paradise Beach. He disappeared from the screen
for a while, but more recently has made a comeback in productions
both in front of and behind the camera.
